A workshop "Happy Hatter Naro Tamiya" was held on August 27 at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / ROPPONGI where a special exhibition NARO’S WONDERLAND has been held.

Naro Tamiya’s creative works expressed with felt materials and patchwork are unique because of their colorfulness. A special exhibition of his works, NARO’S WONDERLAND, will be held at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / ROPPONGI.
Hats that have been made for the store display since its opening will be exhibited in a happy and lively way.
In addition, a workshop "Happy hatter Naro Tamiya" in which parents and children can participate to make stylish hats together with Mr. Tamiya will be held on August 27 (Sat).

Naro Tamiya
1965 Born in Tokyo.
1990 Starts holding numerous solo and joint exhibits as a printmaker.
1992 Finishes the Print Art Course of the Sokei Academy of Fine Art & Design.
1999 Starts participating in the ART WORK at the Miyake Design Office.
2005 Is responsible for the installation of clothes at the ISSEY MIYAKE Paris Collection 1977-1999: Invitations by Tadanori Yokoo held by the Museum of Modern Art, Toyama.
2007 Exhibits works at the 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT exhibition THIS PLAY!
2008 Participates in the Koganecho Bazaar held by the city of Yokohama. Holds the exhibition called Naro Tamiya + me ISSEY MIYAKE.
2009 Holds the exhibition The World of Naro Tamiya – Fantastic Laughing Dolls at the Verkehr Museum (Port of Shimizu, Shizuoka Prefecture).
He is now responsible for the store displays at PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE/ROPPOINGI, me ISSEY MIYAKE/AOYAMA.

Akio Hirata
1925 Akio Hirata was born in Nagano Prefecture. He became an apprentice at a milliner in Ginza at the age of 14.
After becoming chief designer there, he went independent. He established “Atelier Hirata” in 1955.
1961 He established a permanent place in the world of fashion by receiving the FEC (Fashion Editors’ Club) Awards.
1962 He left for France to study millinery formally. He trained at a leading French milliner, Jean Barthet’s salon, to acquire haute mode, a traditional hat-making technique.
1965 He returned to Japan and established “Haute Mode Hirata.”
1971 He opened “Boutique Salon Coco” in Nishi-Azabu. Since then, he has always been active on the front lines, from fashion magazines to the Paris Collection. Other than his flagship store in Nishi-Azabu, he now has boutiques in Matsuya Ginza, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, and Tobu Ikebukuro.

Ohko Ishida
1989 Ohko Ishida joined Haute Mode Hirata.
2000 She established “H.at.” In the same year, she held an exhibition and a small show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
2001 She showcased a fur collection in collaboration with Akio Hirata at the Danish Embassy.
2004 She launched the 2002–2003 autumn/winter collection in a show format, using ballet dancers. She held a hat show in collaboration with Mini Cooper.
2006 She launched “H.at Black Label (men’s line). She is in charge of providing hats for the Paris Collection and Tokyo Collection. She also collaborates with many designers’ brands to provide hat products.

Oki Sato
1977 Oki Sato was born in Canada.
2000 He graduated from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University with the top scores.
2002 After finishing the master’s course at the Graduate School in Waseda University, he established a design office, “nendo.”
2005 He opened the “nendo” Milan office.
2006 He is selected as one of "The 100 Most Respected Japanese" by Newsweek magazine.
2011 “Kaminendo; nendo works 2008–2010” is published (ADP). He is currently based in Tokyo and Milan and is engaged in various kinds of design, including architectural, interior, product, and graphic design. His works are housed in such museums as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He is in the spotlight as a talented designer who leads the design world in Japan.

I was looking at a tree moving in a strong windstorm when I first got the idea for this bag.
I wondered, 'Why do those fragile leaves keep their shape in the wind like that'?
A plant leaf is very thin (like fabric) but the trick is that it has pipes running through it to make it stronger. They are flexible and move with the wind but usually hold their shape.
There are many cultures that take advantage of the leaf's intelligence and wrap food in leaves or make leaf baskets for carrying.
The Pleats Please Leaf Structure bags are designed to be strong and lightweight.
The colorful cords sewn onto the surface of the bag are like the structure of a leaf.
