In association with the “Hirata No Boushi” Exhibition (June 15 [Wed] – June 26 [Wed]) held at SPIRAL, Omotesando, special window displays by Oki Sato (designer and representative of Design Office “nendo”) are presented at ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA ( women / men ) and PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA from June 7 (Tue) to June 29 (Wed).

Akio Hirata
1925 Akio Hirata was born in Nagano Prefecture. He became an apprentice at a milliner in Ginza at the age of 14.
After becoming chief designer there, he went independent. He established “Atelier Hirata” in 1955.
1961 He established a permanent place in the world of fashion by receiving the FEC (Fashion Editors’ Club) Awards.
1962 He left for France to study millinery formally. He trained at a leading French milliner, Jean Barthet’s salon, to acquire haute mode, a traditional hat-making technique.
1965 He returned to Japan and established “Haute Mode Hirata.”
1971 He opened “Boutique Salon Coco” in Nishi-Azabu. Since then, he has always been active on the front lines, from fashion magazines to the Paris Collection. Other than his flagship store in Nishi-Azabu, he now has boutiques in Matsuya Ginza, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, and Tobu Ikebukuro.

Ohko Ishida
1989 Ohko Ishida joined Haute Mode Hirata.
2000 She established “H.at.” In the same year, she held an exhibition and a small show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
2001 She showcased a fur collection in collaboration with Akio Hirata at the Danish Embassy.
2004 She launched the 2002–2003 autumn/winter collection in a show format, using ballet dancers. She held a hat show in collaboration with Mini Cooper.
2006 She launched “H.at Black Label (men’s line). She is in charge of providing hats for the Paris Collection and Tokyo Collection. She also collaborates with many designers’ brands to provide hat products.

Oki Sato
1977 Oki Sato was born in Canada.
2000 He graduated from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University with the top scores.
2002 After finishing the master’s course at the Graduate School in Waseda University, he established a design office, “nendo.”
2005 He opened the “nendo” Milan office.
2006 He is selected as one of "The 100 Most Respected Japanese" by Newsweek magazine.
2011 “Kaminendo; nendo works 2008–2010” is published (ADP). He is currently based in Tokyo and Milan and is engaged in various kinds of design, including architectural, interior, product, and graphic design. His works are housed in such museums as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He is in the spotlight as a talented designer who leads the design world in Japan.
